Centregold’s security rules - part 6 :Computer general use
• Do not run your computer using the “administrator” account. This special account is so powerful that you should use it only when you need to install softwares, perform maintenance tasks or make other system changes. At all other times, use a standard user (safer) account.
• Unless strictly necessary, disable the “file and print sharing”, and the “WiFi auto-connect” features. Also make sure to activate encryption on your WiFi network, change the SSID setup by default, and disable the SSID broadcast option.
• Make an effort to not use every computer you find for checking your financial online accounts. If possible, use a dedicated virtual machine for logging into such critical accounts, and do not ask someone else manage them on your behalf.
For instance, we at Centregold will automatically hide your financial transaction history if several computers are found to be used to connect to your account, for security concerns.
• Don’t plug unknown USB drives into your computer. In fact, if autorun is enabled, such drives might install malwares automatically on your computer. This rule applies to CDs and DVDs as well.
In case you actually need to use them, hold down the “ctrl” and “shift” keyboard keys while inserting these media, to temporarily disable autorun.
• About email accounts, we recommend highly secure email providers - like Hushmail - and not to use the same email address for every purpose. The email you use for your financial account shouldn’t be shared on forums, Facebook, and the like.
For instance, it’s very important that your Liberty Reserve email address shouldn’t be known to anyone else other than you. More details about that can be found here.
